Craven Vale Community Association (CVCA) was set up with help from the Council in 2003 to look after the needs of all the residents of both the council’s housing estate in Craven Vale and the private dwellings of Rochester, Bute and Hendon Streets to the east of Sutherland Road and Dawson Terrace, Cuthbert Road and Evelyn Terrace to the west. In 2015 the area covered was extended to include Monument View and the Causeway.

A committee is appointed to run the Association at a general meeting held in the autumn and currently consists of eight members, all unpaid residents of the valley. There are monthly evening meetings at the Vale Community Centre, alternating between open meetings for all residents, and committee meetings. The next three Open meetings are on November 8th, January 10th and March 13th. Leaflets are regularly delivered to all 730 households in the area advertising the meetings and other forthcoming events.

The Association exists to try and build a sense of community throughout the valley, organising regular events throughout the week and throughout the year to encourage residents to leave their homes and meet their neighbours.

It has invested much time and effort to improve the look of the Estate through hard work, and by bidding for grants to pay for improvements.

The Association also tries hard to help residents with their problems and much time and effort was recently expended to (successfully) combat the rise of drug-dealing on the housing estate following a council decision to settle potential offenders throughout the Estate.

Do make contact with CVCA – to report a concern or an opportunity, or to become involved yourself – by emailing usethevale@virginmedia.com, leaving a phone message on 01273 571 573, writing to us at the Vale Community Centre 17A Hadlow Close BN2 0FH, checking our Facebook page ‘The Vale Community Centre’, or joining us on Tuesday morning for tea and cake!
